Party kwentos & Suppliers Rating

We started planning Yumi’s 1st bday bash beginning January of this year; there were lots of things to consider so it’s better to start ahead of time. From the venue up to the small details, I was very hands on since we have a tight budget. By the way the first thing that we mulled over and prepared is the “budget”, I promised myself that I have to stick on the exact budget no matter what. As a result, we were so happy coz we were able to pull it off even there’s a few glitches.

Smart parenting forum and GT were my resources (plus my busy fingers which keep on typing and searching for the cheapest yet quality party suppliers, LOL). I’m so thankful for tons of party ideas in the internet especially to kid’s parties/preps of GT forum; definitely helpful!

We only had reserved 80pax for the adult guests and 30pax for the kids. The guests especially the kids enjoyed the entire party. I saw the kiddos’ excitement and it brings me satisfaction; the party was a blast b’coz of them. I’m sure Yumi will be thrilled when she watch the video as she grows up. Around 100+ adults and 30 kids were present. (babies not included).

In fairness, hubs was impressed with the party’s outcome (he should be! di ko kase napakinabangan sa party preps pwera lang sa budget, hehehe). Yumi was awake all throughout the party even she felt so sleepy at around 3pm (her naptime); she toddles around and sometimes crawls infront of the stage, good thing the place is carpeted. And the mommy? Of course very happy even I felt too stressed at times.

Theme: Hearts and Berries

I really don’t want to have a cartoon character theme since Yumi has lots of preferred characters like Barney, Dora and Sesame Street; she’s always giggling whenever she watches them. I chose Hearts and Berries coz I love strawberries and added hearts so it will be full of love. However, I still used some party favors from Strawberry Shortcake like Pinata and lootbag for the girls.

Date: June 7, 2009
Actually her real birthday is June 5.

Suppliers rating and Expenses
10 being the highest

Venue: Prestige Tower-Roofdeck, Ortigas Center
Caterer: Chow Unlimited (In-house caterer)
Peso Value: 20,800 (food for 80 adults)
3,000 (food for 30 kids)
Website: http://cateringtrio.com/chowunlimited.html
Rate: 10
Contact Person: Shalou, Joy

We booked the venue early February and furnished 5k downpayment to block our desired date. We ended up having 100+ adults’ guest plus the party suppliers (thus, we still brought home some leftover food). Miss Shalou is very accommodating and also Joy who was in charged during the party. We never had difficulty dealing with them even I have so many concerns and “arte” sometimes.
*nagkaron lang ng konting problem sa venue, me tumutulo kase sa ceiling, wala naman daw yun nung umaga, konti lang naman.

Balloon Set-up/Balloon Burst: Sayitwithballoons

Contact Person: Cherry

My favorite party supplier! She's so "mabait"; I found Cherry’s site through Multiply Search when I typed “affordable balloon décor”. Of all the balloon suppliers I inquired, she has the cheapest packages. I had a hard time choosing between her packages coz I don't want to avail balloon pillars due to its height and bulkiness (I wanted the guests to bring home all the balloons). I told her that I only have 6k maximum budget for the entire balloon setup and she worked on it; she’s really an angel for me coz she made the venue a party haven even I have a small budget. I love her hearts and berries balloon chandelier! Also the balloon burst (the stick used for balloon popping was so nice! Sigh… there’s no picture of it).

Photographer: Focalpoint
Peso Value: 2,500 (labor only)
Rate: 10

I was so lucky coz I got their starting rate at 2.5k; right now it’s already 4.5k. I learned about Focalpoint through Smartparenting/GT then searched in Multiply. We just conversed through emails. There’s no downpayment required; I just gave Chris full payment after the party. We didn’t talk regarding what I want him to capture; I’m confident enough that he’ll going to have a good job. Output? We’re soooo satisfied; pictures of party details were all great! The party girl has lots of pictures too; though she’s not in the mood to give her smile, she’s so busy with other things around her. All in all we’re really satisfied with Chris’ shots.

Just got the video in June 22. Don’t expect too much with the video quality. If you have the budget, get someone with great feedbacks. As a matter of fact I’m not yet finish watching the 1-hour edited video coz every 10 or 20 mins it stops. At first I thought it’s because of the DVD player so I used my laptop but then again it still happen. Hubs told me he will convert it to divx; hopefully it turns out to be a better one. Another thing, Yumi’s second name was misspelled in the DVD cover; hubs also needs to alter some information in the video. He will edit the whole video again!

Host/Magician: Boogie and Friends
Peso Value: 3,600
Inclusions: 30 balloon twists, use of bubble machine, facepainting, 1 assistant
Rate: 9
Website: http://boogieandfriends.multiply.com

Their rate is really affordable! Plus the freebies! At first I was hesitant to get their service but they were the only one who fits my budget. All in all, they made the whole party lively especially to the kids.

Cakes: Baby Bear’s Secret Bakeshop
Peso Value: 2,380
Inclusions: 2 layered cake size 9” and 6”, candle blowing size 4”
Rate: 10

Contact Person: Charlene

I booked Charlene last February after I ordered Yumi’s 10th month cake from her. Her choco cake was yummy coz it’s moist and not too sweet. I just emailed her pictures of the cake and Yumi’s picture wearing her birthday gown for the edible topper. Viola! She made it perfect! You wanna ask if her cake is affordable? The answer is YES! She gave me the most affordable price amongst other cake suppliers.

Cupcakes: Ramos Bakeshop
Peso Power: 1,500 (100 pcs)
Rate: 9
Website: N/A

Another budget-friendly neighborhood. I didn’t have the chance to taste the cupcake but according to the guests it’s yummy; the size is bigger than a regular cupcake. Some of the icing swirls have been damaged due to transportation.

Cupcake Toppers: Chocolatelovers, Sta Lucia, Rustans
Peso Power: 400
Rate: 10

Of course it’s my idea so love your own. LOL

Pinata, Prizes for the games, Balloon Burst goodies, toys for lootbags: Divisoria
Peso Value: Around 4,500
Rate: 10

Divisoria is an ultimate haven for a budgetarian like me. Wherever you go, cheap products are everywhere. SULIT for affordable prizes! Hubs and I went there a couple of times since we can’t buy all the party stuffs in a single trip. Just a reminder, make a list of things you need to buy and stick to your budget; another, canvass first before buying.

Lootbag goodies, candies for Pinata: Sta Lucia
Peso Value: 1,900

Invitation, thank you card, lootbag’s tag: DIY.
Printed in photocenter/computer shop
Peso Value: 300
Rate: 10

Another DIY, so love your own!

Guest sheets/prints: DIY (I just cut stationery papers then clipped it into Yumi’s printed pix)
Peso Value: 200

Tarpaulin: DIY
Peso Value: 1,250

Foodcart: Nestle
Peso Value: 2,450
Rate: 9

Dunno if it’s right to say foodcart; instead of using a carrito the supplier ended up using the nestle box. It’s not the vendor’s fault, coz I told him beforehand that he can use a smaller box coz the venue has a low ceiling.

Food add-ons: Pansit Malabon, Puto, and TJ hotdogs
Peso Value: 1,000

For the pansit malabon, I ordered it to my suki who lives outside our village, it’s yummy yet affordable. I got the puto from our village neighbor who previously worked in Goldlilocks. I just let our neighbor (like a relative to us) cooked the hotdogs.

Giveaways: Chocolatelovers and Divisoria

Yumi’s Party dress/gown, shoes, and other accessories:
Peso Power: 2,700
Her party gown was made by our dearest friend; soooo cheap coz I only paid for the materials. We super duuuper love this neighbor together with his whole family.

That's all. I hope I didn't forget something.
